Sustainability in our research

Our ambition is to make aviation climate-neutral by 2050 and also to make the use of space more sustainable. This requires radical innovations on both technological and societal levels. Sustainable aviation is one of the strategic pillars that NLR focuses on. We are working on new propulsion technologies, aircraft designs and alternative fuels. We are also looking at the entire chain of production, use and recycling to create a circular economy. To achieve our climate goals, we are working together with other parties in the aviation sector, including as a member of the Luchtvaart in Transitie-programme (Aviation in Transition). This initiative brings together parties to work jointly on the transition to a more sustainable aviation sector.
