Many airports experienced a first: the landing of the first electric plane at the end of August. Royal NLR flew a round of the Netherlands with a fully electric plane, the Pipistrel. First round: from Rotterdam to Schiphol.
To meet the climate goals, we have to be more sustainable. Aviation accounts for about three percent of global CO2 emissions. That percentage needs to go down. The goal is to fly climate-neutral by 2050. To achieve that, we must put all our sails on. All sustainable solutions are small pieces in the big puzzle of a more sustainable aviation. Battery-electric flight is one of those solutions. And you already can. NLR’s electric two-seater, the Pipistrel Velis Electro, flew almost silently and purposefully to eleven airports in the Netherlands.
