After ten racing cars with combustion engines, the switch to electric drive systems has turned out to be the golden ticket for the students of Delft University of Technology: in their first Formula Student competition at Silverstone, England, this past weekend, their DUT11 immediately won the overall score as well as nine of the ten disciplines.
Formula Student is an international racing and design competition for university student teams. More than 450 university teams from all over the world participate in ten racing events on different Formula 1 circuits worldwide.
NLR has been sponsoring the DUT Racing Project for many years by contributing its expertise and by making facilities available for the production of complex turning and milling components as well as lightweight composite parts.
NLR maintains close ties with Delft University of Technology. Furthermore, through this sponsoring, NLR demonstrates that it also develops products for use in other sectors, such as road transport. As well, the DUT Racing Project is an exercise in design skills, practical management, teamwork, public relations and sponsoring, i.e. aspects that will determine the students’ social success after their graduation.
