Triton-1 in orbit
Tomorrow, Thursday November 21, 2013 at 8:10 pm (CET), two cubesats Triton – 1 and Delfi -n3Xt will be launched from the launch base in Yasny in Russia.
Triton – 1 is the first of a network of several dozen of satellites which will map ship movements in the oceans from space. NLR developed the on-board computer for CubeSat Triton – 1 for which the Dutch company ISIS wrote the on-board software. ISIS also developed a highly sensitive and advanced receiver for the reception of position messages from space. Messages which are broadcasted regularly by ships using the Automatic Idenitfication System (AIS). The receiver is the main payload of the Triton – 1 satellite , which further contains various support systems covering power supply, data processing and telecommunications. Delfi-n3Xt is part of the Delfi program; a development line of CubeSats at the Delft University of Technology, aiming at providing hands-on education and training of students as well as technology demonstration for Dutch space industry and research and development on the nano-satellite spacecraft bus. NLR participated in the review team, contributing to the development of the architecture and design of the satellite.
