Lieutenant General (retd.) Jac Jansen has been appointed as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of NLR. Mr Jansen will take up this position with effect from 21 September 2018. He succeeds the current Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Mr Arie Kraaijeveld, who will have completed the maximum statutory 12-year period of office as of the same date.
Jac Jansen was born in 1956 in Maastricht, the Netherlands. After completing his secondary education, he trained as an officer and fighter pilot with the Royal Netherlands Air Force. During his career in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, he worked in various positions in operational command, policy preparation (strategy and planning) and programme management (reorganizations and restructuring operations). Mr Jansen served in international NATO positions in various postings, and completed his career at the Ministry of Defence as Commander of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. He was subsequently appointed Director of Eurocontrol Maastricht (Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, MUAC) and served in this position until 2017. In this capacity, he was responsible for air traffic control operations in the upper airspace over Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and North-West Germany.
