Flight procedure validation

Ensuring the safety and efficiency of flight procedures is crucial for modern air traffic management. When it comes to implementing Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) procedures, such as RNAV/RNP, RNP APCH or RNP AR, a thorough validation process is essential. NLR’s Flight Procedure Validation can support you in substantiating your decision to perform a Ground or Flight validation, conducting a ‘desktop’, simulator or in-flight validation of PBN procedures.

Our expertise can also provide you with a deeper understanding of the validation process itself, as well as the capabilities to assess new requirements on flight procedures.

NLR can support you with:

  • Validation of Flight Procedures, as holder of the EASA certificate for Flight Procedure Design Service Provider, with the service – Validation of Flight Procedures ( EU 2017/373)
  • Knowledge and capability to perform the validation of a PBN flight procedure
  • Capability to provide tailor-made support during the design or validation phase of the Instrument Flight Procedure
  • Knowledge of the applicable validation standards ICAO Doc 9906 Volume 5/6
  • EASA qualified Flight Validation Pilots
  • Ability to perform validations for all types of PBN approach: RNP using conventional or GNSS sensors, LPV, LNAV/VNAV or LNAV approaches, APV BaroNAV, SBAS or RNP AR procedures
  • A Cessna Citation II (C550) research aircraft, equipped with the Aerodata© Flight Inspection and Validation System
  • Capabilities to evaluate New Routes, or (SID, STAR, Enroute) Route Segments for ANSPs
  • Experience with ICAO PANS-OPS criteria and compliance aspects (ICAO Doc 8168-OPS/611, Procedures for Air Navigation Services-Aircraft Operations).
  • An experienced team of airline- and research pilots, flight inspectors and planners
  • Experience with efficient data gathering, data-analysis and data reporting
  • Quality assurance and quality control processes executed under ISO 9001
