Working at NLR

Royal NLR has been an ambitious knowledge institution for applied research for over 100 years. Our work involves finding and developing innovative solutions to complex challenges in aerospace, both in our own country and abroad.

And what will you be working on at NLR? If aerospace is to become more sustainable and future-proof, we must continually challenge ourselves. How can we ensure that the environmental impact is minimised? How can we guarantee aviation safety despite its exponential growth and the advent of drones? Can we utilise airspace even more efficiently? How can we optimally deploy satellites and satellite data? The future looks highly demanding yet fascinating and it will require accelerating innovation and closer collaboration.

Not just a job, but a career

At NLR, you can develop from a junior to a senior position. Of course, this also depends on your own development and commitment. If you start at NLR as a junior, you will be guided in your daily tasks by more experienced colleagues. Over time, you will continue to develop and take on more responsibility in increasingly larger projects, depending on your abilities and aspirations. We will support you with various training courses, which can be technically-oriented and directly applicable to your daily work. However, you will also receive more general training, such as courses on project management, presentation techniques, or negotiation skills.

Even as an experienced specialist, you will continue to deepen, broaden, and apply your knowledge and skills. You will play an independent role in projects, be a fully-fledged partner for clients, and mentor less experienced colleagues.
NLR is based in Amsterdam and Marknesse. In addition, we have a satellite location in Noordwijk at the Space Campus, and at Rotterdam The Hague Airport where our research aircraft are located.
